Practicing Self Care As An Entrepreneur

Self care is one of those things that gets put to the bottom of the list. A “when I have the time” thing and for a lot of us, that time never shows up.

Self care doesn’t have to be a luxurious thing where you turn your phone off for 2 weeks and go to a spa and do yoga and relax – although that does sound pretty magical.

Self care can be simple acts of kindness to yourself to avoid burning out, because it can creep up far too quick.

In the thick of nurturing your business, don’t forget to nurture yourself.

Here are some ideas for self care to start putting on the top of your list.

Create A Daily Routine

Creating a daily routine where you set your hours, and stick to them, will be a game changer. Sometimes the hardest boundaries to set are for yourself, but doing this and honouring them will make you a happier and more productive business owner.

Me Time

You absolutely need “me time”. Carving out some time where you do something for yourself every single day is crucial. Make sure it’s not to do with the business, family or home life. It has to be something you really enjoy doing. A coffee from your favourite cafe, treating your skin to some fabulous oils, reading a few chapters of a book or even a quiet wine on the deck at the end of the day.

Giving yourself something to look forward to every day will make you appreciate it so much more, and it will give you something to work towards. Especially for us still in lockdown!

Say No More Often

Pointless meetings, dead end collaborations and a flurry of ‘can I pick your brain sessions’ are enough to deter the most focussed of entrepreneurs. 90% of these opportunities are most likely a distraction and by embracing the word ‘no’ and staying on track, you will reach your goals faster. By all means, if a sensational opportunity that aligns with your end game comes up, say YES but be strategic on how you’re spending your precious time.

Focus On One Task Per Day

Set your day up for success by choosing one task per day to complete. As a busy entrepreneur, it’s easy to get sidetracked and complete a whole lot of half-baked tasks per day. The optimum way to work is to achieve something you’re proud of or feeds into your main goal per day. So, choose one thing and stick to it. Turn off notifications, don’t answer un-important calls and stay OFF social media unless it’s work related.

You’ll feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day, promise.

Ask For Help

Working less and earning more creates more free time for you to be strategic. It will help to increase your revenue and leave you feeling more focused.

It gets you out of a state of overwhelm and ‘doing all the things’ so you can focus on what’s really important and going to help you move forward in your business.

Outsourcing and asking others for help can feel daunting in the beginning but let me let you in on a little secret. Outsourcing changed my business and more importantly, my mindset. By outsourcing, I was able to work ON the business rather than IN it.
