How to Make your Goals Realistic and Attainable

Last week I chatted to you about setting up your goals for 2022. Ensuring your goals are thoughtful and achievable to maximise your likelihood of success and guaranteeing you have the confidence to make BIG goals by;

  1. Understanding your goals
  2. Taking control of your life
  3. Creating your future

Now I want to show you HOW to make your goals realistic and attainable to achieve exactly what needs to be done to get there.

Here are 4 things to consider when setting your new goals;

1. Invest In Yourself

Running a business takes a range of skills, and there’s no limit to what you can learn. Figure out where there’s gaps are in your professional or personal life and find a course or program, a coach, a new tool that will support your growth and take you further in your business.

For ideas, head to my blog Why You Should Be Investing In Yourself for 3 easy ways to invest in yourself.

2. Stop Avoiding

When you’re working in your business, rather than on your business, it can be hard to find time to make changes. There’s usually at least one element in your business that you’re wanting to change but you can’t find the time to do so.

Whether it’s upgrading your website, connecting with your customers, or looking for a better deal on your insurances, stop avoiding it.

Take a moment to write down a plan, and continue to make moves on it. Otherwise it’s just another stress on your shoulders.

3. Update Your Marketing Plan

If you’ve been putting off updating your marketing plan but wondering why you’re not where you want to be or you’re ready for the next step, this could be a perfect time to review it.

Your marketing plan might reflect where you were or where you wanted to be, but not where you’re at now or where you imagine your business.

When you update your plans, you can review what you’ve experienced so far and get specific about what you want to achieve.

4. Write out your 90-day business goals.

I’m a HUGE fan of breaking your year up into 90-day blocks! It works for me and it will work or you too.

Be sure to consider things like how you will judge your progress, decide when you will work on this project, and when you want to achieve it. Be sure to use SMART goals!

Failing to plan is planning to fail, so, it’s important to map out your 90 day business goals. Measure your milestones and be accountable to them as this will help you to stay on track and give you an indication of how your business is progressing. And something to celebrate at the end of each quarter! We could all use a little more celebrating in business.

These 90 day goals can be broken down even further into monthly, weekly and even daily goals. Visually mapping out your goals on a wall planner is a great way to keep them front of mind. Remember to reward yourself with a massage, a dinner date or mini weekend away when you reach your goals. You’ve worked hard to achieve them!

Set Deadlines
  • Set clear deadlines and highlight what’s urgent.
  • Estimate the time each task will take you to complete and set realistic expectations to achieve your goals so you can gain a sense of accomplishment. You don’t want to be overly optimistic; this will only lead to disappointment.
Review & Be Realistic
  • Do you ever review your to-do lists and realise the 1 or 2 tasks get lost at the bottom every time? This is why reviewing them will help show you what you’ve missed and you can figure out why they’re not getting done. By regularly reviewing to-do lists, you may be able to cross off several completed tasks, leaving you feeling super accomplished!
  • Remember, prioritisation needs to be flexible. Be sure to allow time for distractions. You never know when urgent things will pop up that you need to take care of!

It’s time to pull up your big girl pants!
